"The City of Albuquerque's ABQ BioPark is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable animal and agricultural care professional to serve as the Assistant Farm Curator. This key role supports the daily operations, care, and management of the BioPark's farm animals and agricultural exhibits.
Reporting directly to the Farm Curator, the Assistant Farm Curator helps oversee staff and volunteers, ensures high standards of animal husbandry and welfare, and maintains agricultural operations, including pastures, crops, and farm infrastructure. The position collaborates closely with veterinary staff, other animal care teams, and BioPark leadership to meet and exceed standards for animal health, safety, and public engagement.
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong knowledge of farm animal management, agricultural practices, and facility maintenance, committed to advancing the ABQ BioPark's mission of education, conservation, and exemplary animal care."
Supervise, plan and coordinate staff engaged in a variety of ABQ BioPark services, activities and operations with the focus on providing highly responsible care and husbandry of the BioPark's diverse living collection. This includes the maintenance of exhibits and facilities. Assignment will be in one of the BioPark facilities: Zoo (exotic animals); Botanic Garden (plants, trees, farm animals and displays); Aquarium (salt and fresh water aquatic animals and plants).

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in botany, horticulture, or agriculture; and
Three (3) years of botanical, horticultural, arboricultural, or agricultural operations (crop/animal) experience; and
To include
one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.
International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certification preferred.
Experience working in an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited facility preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days from date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
