The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing all financial and accounting activities of the company, including preparing financial statements, managing accounting functions, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. This role involves supervising the accounting team, assisting with audits, and providing financial insights to help guide business decisions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring they are accurate and in compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Review and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring that all accounts are accurate and up-to-date. Implement and maintain internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data. Assist in preparing annual budgets and forecasts; analyze financial performance and recommend actions to improve profitability. Assist with the coordination of internal and external auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations. Supervise the accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments. Assist in preparing and filing tax returns and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations and laws. Supervise, train, and mentor junior accounting staff to enhance team performance and ensure high-quality work. Provide management with regular financial analysis and insights to help drive business decisions. Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting. Develop standard operating procedures, cross training of personnel, development of training guides.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, CPA a plus. 7-10 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or assistant role. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Intaact and Microsoft Office Suite) . Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial managers. Experience supervising, training, and mentoring junior accounting staff to enhance team performance and ensure high-quality work. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

WORK LOCATION




This hybrid position is based in Washington, DC, and requires three days on-site at our NLC headquarters.

SALARY RANGE




$77,000 - $130,000
