The Department of Mathematics at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Mathematics. The anticipated start date is August 2026. A doctorate in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, or a closely related field is required. The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and to develop and maintain an active research program. Expectations also include teaching a wide range of undergraduate courses, advising undergraduate students, guiding students in research projects, and engaging in scholarly activity. To be considered for a tenured appointment, candidates should meet the SDBOR current expectations for tenure by demonstrating the capacity and ability to meet the standards of performance expected at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. These include a strong record of teaching, an established research program, active and significant research publication in the years preceding application, and substantial service record at various levels.
The typical teaching load is three courses per semester; though, this may be adjusted depending on teaching, research, and service expectations. Current research in the department includes activity in statistics, data analysis, mathematical modeling, algebra, and the scholarship of teaching and learning (SOTL). Mathematics faculty are also actively involved in a variety of interdisciplinary research projects across the campus.
