Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with a major in a science related field plus at least four years of applicable experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience to total eight (8) years.
Certified Asbestos Supervisor by the Minnesota Department of Health, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
Certified Asbestos Inspector by the Minnesota Department of Health, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
Certified HAZWOPER or the ability to obtain within 1 year.
Completed the Minnesota 2-day Asbestos Air Sampling course or equivalent to MDH rules.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree with a major in a science related field plus 4 years' applicable experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience to total 10 years.
5 years of asbestos bulk and air sampling analysis using PLM and PCM.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to use a personal computer and software programs. Ability to use personal monitoring equipment and analysis equipment.
Ability to pass Asbestos Analyst Registry tests. Ability to pass tests to acquire MDH certifications.
Ability to work a flexible schedule (evenings, late night, and early morning).
Prefer 1-year experience with Polarized Light Microscopy.
Knowledge of the following laws/rules: 29CFR 1910.1001, 29CFR 1926.62, Minnesota Department of Health Asbestos Abatement Rules, AHERA, NESHAPS, and MPCA waste rules. Current trends in the asbestos/lead industry.
Ability to work and communicate with a wide variety of people that have various levels of education. Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme heat, crawlspaces, tunnels, and vertical shafts. Ability to prioritize the workload to meet the most important requirements first.
Asbestos Inspector, Site Supervisor, and/or Lead Inspector licenses/registrations are preferred.
About the Job
Under direction of the Operations Manager in the Hazardous Material Program, the Assistant Asbestos Lab Manager will assist and ensure lab maintains certified through AIHA. This position provides technical and administrative support for Facilities Management's asbestos and lead operations and maintenance programs.
Job Duties
Responsibilities include asbestos lab responsibilities, updating Lab manuals, managing all aspects of the Asbestos Lab Program, conducting hazard assessments, and tracks/collects/analyzes personal monitoring for asbestos and lead exposure.
65% Lab responsibilities
o QA/QC program, lab certification, updating lab manuals, and lab accreditation.
o Perform analysis of suspect asbestos materials using PLM microscopy
o Manage, Participate, and comply with AIHA BAPT and AAT Programs
o Maintain and Calibrate Laboratories and Field equipment.
20% On-site management of Asbestos Abatement Projects.
o Evaluates potential hazards and serves on the environmental hazard response team to identify hazards and implement appropriate solutions.
o Analyze and track asbestos abatement unit's personal and area air monitoring samples.
o Conduct and analyze asbestos and lead personal air monitoring for maintenance staff. Track sample results in a computer database.
10% Training
o Provide initial and refresher Asbestos Awareness Training for FM employees.
o Attend required training courses to maintain certifications.
5% Miscellaneous
o Other duties as assigned.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $39.66-$44.47 depending on education/qualification/experience
Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
