Program Overview
Electro-mechanical repair and overhaul of mail processing, delivery and bulk processing equipment, including repairing printed circuit boards, electrical, electronic, mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies to a component level. These services ensure the continued essential automation, mechanization of retail and bulk processing equipment used in mail processing and retail installations across the entire country.

Assembly Screening Technician - On the Job Training (OJT)
to join our team of diverse, qualified individuals. The
Assembly Screening Technician OJT
works at the United States Postal Service (USPS) Central Repair Facility (CRF) in Topeka, KS. The CRF is a depot repair facility for USPS mail processing, delivery, and bulk mail systems repairable parts. Examples: repairing printed circuit boards, electrical, electronic, mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies to component level. The CRF provides depot level maintenance for essential automation, mechanization, retail and bulk mail processing systems used in all mail processing and retail installations.
Our
Assembly Screening Technician OJT
performs a variety of non-complex assembly and disassembly tasks to perform functional tests for quality of product according to specifications. Specific tasks include:

Perform functional tests for quality of product according to specifications
Will operate and test equipment to determine whether it is working properly per diagram, written or verbal instruction and will identify issue (where applicable) by selecting, verifying and identifying needed material
Perform non-complex modifications or repair of electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical assemblies
Direct supervision is provided and refers questions to higher levels
Close supervision involving detailed instructions and constant checking on work performance
Disassemble, assemble and/or install equipment or parts requiring non-complex wiring or connecting
Screening may include identifying need for repair of electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical assemblies
Ability needed to: rotate through tasks per instruction, be detail and safety oriented, meet schedules and move items to staged areas
Assembles and labels component kits from drawings or parts list
Work is checked in progress or on completion
There is close supervision involving detailed instruction and continuous checking on work performance
Performs other related tasks as required

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
U.S. Citizenship required (Must have resided in the U.S. for the past five years with no more than six months travel outside the U.S. during this timeframe).
Required skills will be obtained through a 90-day On the Job Training (OJT) program. Upon successful completion, individual shall be deemed fully qualified as having met the labor category requirements for an Assembly / Screening Technician.
Ability to read and interpret exploded view assembly drawings
Ability to utilize hand, power and pneumatic tools to assemble/disassemble structural or mechanical components
Apply Safety Awareness to tasks
Must be able to read, write and understand the English language well enough to perform one's duties without undue degradation of one's abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in manufacturing, repair, or computer configuration
Physical Requirements:
Heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Must be able to lift 40 pounds
Ability to stand on feet for long durations
Ability to perform a variety of assembly tasks requiring dexterity and fine motor skills
Physical activity may include climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motion
Required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operates machines, where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performs mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature
Subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and electrical current

Target Salary Range: The rate / range per hour below represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
