Job Description

Position Summary:

The Asphalt Loader/Plant Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment, primarily a front-end loader--while supporting daily asphalt plant operations. This role assists with material handling, stockpile management, plant production, and routine maintenance. The operator plays a key role in maintaining steady production flow and ensuring Flynn Brothers Contracting's standards for safety, quality, and efficiency are consistently upheld.

Key Responsibilities:

Loader Operation & Material Handling

Safely operate a front-end loader to move, load, and stockpile aggregates and materials used in asphalt production. Maintain proper stockpile organization, cleanliness, and separation of materials. Supply plant bins with materials to ensure continuous operation and prevent plant downtime. Perform loader pre-trip inspections and report any defects immediately.

Plant Operation Support

Assist the Plant Operator with daily production tasks and monitoring plant controls as needed. Help maintain consistent production by troubleshooting flow issues, monitoring material levels, and adjusting operations when necessary. Assist with loading cold stone to bins Loading milling bins Communicate with dispatch, truck drivers, and the plant team to support smooth plant operations.

Maintenance & Housekeeping

Perform basic preventative maintenance on the loader and assist with plant maintenance tasks. Clean plant areas, walkways, and loadout zones to maintain a safe and organized worksite. Help with lubrication, component checks, and minor repairs as directed by the Plant Operator or Mechanic.

Safety & Compliance

Follow all Flynn Brothers safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements at all times. Maintain awareness of hazards involving hot materials, moving equipment, and elevated plant structures. Assist with environmental compliance tasks, including proper handling of materials and spill cleanup. Participate in safety meetings and support FBC's culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.

Qualifications:

Experience operating a front-end loader required (construction or plant environment preferred). Previous experience in asphalt production or aggregate handling is a plus. Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment with heat, dust, noise, and heavy machinery. Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions and safety protocols. Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical tasks. Must have reliable transportation and be available for extended hours during peak paving season.

Preferred Skills (Not Required):

Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment inspections and minor repairs. Familiarity with plant controls, asphalt production, or drum/batch plants. Experience working with truck drivers and dispatch teams.

Work Environment:

Outdoor industrial setting with exposure to hot materials, dust, noise, and heavy equipment. Overtime, nights, and weekend shifts may be required depending on production needs.

Pay: $24.57 - $29.59 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
