Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for the position of
Artist in Residence - Piano
in the Department of Music. We seek an outstanding pianist and educator who demonstrates excellence in performance, teaching, and collaborative artistry. The Artist in Residence will contribute to the musical and cultural life of the university through performance, instruction, and engagement with students, faculty, and the broader community.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Teach applied piano lessons to undergraduate music majors and minors;
Coach chamber music, accompanying, and collaborative piano activities;
Present solo and collaborative performances on campus and in the community;
Provide accompaniment for student and faculty recitals, juries, and auditions as needed;
Contribute to recruitment and outreach efforts for the Department of Music;
Engage in service and creative activity consistent with the mission of the department and university.
The Department of Music at Xavier
A primary objective of the Department of Music is to prepare students to enter one or more of the several important specialized music fields as a career. Music classes, performance opportunities, seminars, and other musical experiences are offered in the department's efforts to prepare the student for graduate study and/or professional work in these areas.
The training of students to make very significant contributions within the African-American community as well as the wider academic and social worlds is a major focus of the Department of Music. The department sponsors a variety of musical concerts and recitals during the academic year. These experiences provide excellent opportunities to hear good quality performances by artists, the music faculty, and music students.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano (Doctorate preferred, or equivalent professional experience);
Demonstrated excellence as a solo and collaborative performer;
Proven success as a teacher of applied piano at the collegiate level;
Strong commitment to inclusive pedagogy and student success in a diverse academic environment;
Write and Speak English proficiently;
Commitment to the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience accompanying vocalists and instrumentalists in both classical and contemporary repertoire;
Record of creative or scholarly achievement, community engagement, or interdisciplinary collaboration.
