JOB SUMMARY

ARTCo (American River Transportation Company) Operations Management Trainee will participate in a program in which they will be trained & observe in the overall management of operations of ARTCo facilities and Towing Vessels including, but not limited to general and maritime safety; people management; basic accounting; managing capital assets; repairs, troubleshooting and maintenance; regulatory issues: and implementation of safety programs and procedures. Potential location assignments include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri and Louisiana.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE (qualifications)

Areas of concentration will include the scheduling of manufacturing, logistic coordination, and local grain procurement. Relationship management with customers and suppliers will be an additional important focus. You will be responsible for scheduling plant production, along with coordinating warehouse inventory, bulk truck and rail load out. Daily involvement and interaction with operations and quality staff is important for success. Position will serve as a back up to commercial managers in their absence.

Responsibilities:
  • Understand Profit and Loss of Milling business
  • Learn how to maximize profits through effective grain procurement and inventory management
  • Grain trading and procurement responsibilities
  • Execution of bulk truck, rail and packaging lines
  • Manage and trade truck freight and arbitrage positions
  • Work closely with centralized customer service, local operations, sales and quality to meet customer expectations
  • Learn how to develop Go To Market Strategy for Mill and Free to Sell
  • Report and monitor inventories of flour, wheat, ingredients, and by-products and make timely and coordinated decisions
  • Participate in month end reconciliation
  • PR/PO processing as needed
  • Understand operations, quality and sales to roles
  • Be available off shifts and weekends to receive calls if needed
  • Strive to maintain the safest work environment possible
  • Work on special projects to enhance learning and training
  • Participate in daily operation reviews
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in business, finance, economics, supply chain management
  • Merchandising and/or grain merchandising is a plus
  • Good working knowledge of Excel, Word, MS Outlook
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet specific deadlines
  • Interpersonal skills with desire to be a team member
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • High performer with initiative to learn other responsibilities
  • Open to relocation throughout the U.S.
