The Art Therapist or Facilitating Artist leads and supports engaging art-based programming for participants as part of SACHR's wide range of services. This role involves designing and facilitating inclusive, trauma-informed art activities that meet participants where they are at whether emotionally, mentally, and socially. The Artist will work with the COO to track engagement, participation and utilization of the program as well as integrate participant feedback into overall service provision.
Responsibilities
Design and facilitate accessible, participant-driven art activities (e.g., painting, collage, sculpture, zines, textiles, or other media).
Foster a nonjudgmental, affirming space where all participants feel welcomed, respected, and empowered to express themselves.
Collaborate with harm reduction staff to integrate art into the broader healing and wellness programming.
Provide reflective listening and emotional support during art sessions, referring to clinical staff as appropriate.
Maintain supplies and materials; ensure art space is welcoming, safe, and organized.
Optionally participate in a rotating schedule as one of several visiting artists bringing diverse mediums to participants.
Track basic participation metrics for program evaluation and grant reporting (no case management required).
Assist with grant writing, budget tracking, and resource allocation for Art Therapy services.
Uphold trauma-informed, anti-racist, and person-centered care approaches in all interactions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience facilitating art programming or therapy in community or clinical settings.
Ability to hold nonjudgmental, person-centered space for all participants.
Strong project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with people who use drugs, people experiencing homelessness, and other marginalized populations.
Preferred Qualifications
Spanish fluency or conversational ability
Master's degree or Bachelors in Art Therapy or related field (LCAT or license-eligible is a plus).
Experience working in harm reduction, shelters, syringe service programs, or related environments.
Experience with a wide range of artistic media and practices.
