JOB SUMMARY:

Performs apprentice level work for multi-skilled trades and does related duties requiring basic professional skills and technical knowledge. Progresses from entry through advanced semi-skilled abilities by proven service and successful trade related vocational instruction. Subject to unscheduled and callback hours as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
---------------
50% - Essential - Preventative Maintenance, Trades Training and Development: Performs corrective and preventive maintenance for university buildings, serving as assistant and/or primary maintenance representative for the Facilities division. Performs multi-skilled tasks as on-the-job training under the direction of a Journeyman or Master trades worker when appropriate. Completes on-the-job training and related educational instruction as outlined in multi-skilled apprenticeship program.
15% - Essential - Plumbing: Unstops, changes, replaces or re-hangs commercial toilets, urinals, and sinks. Tests and replaces failed valves and parts. Clears drains with manual or powered auger as needed. Performs routine maintenance of emergency eyewashes and showers.
15% - Essential - HVAC Systems Management: Perform preventive maintenance as directed and scheduled minor repairs on fan coils, air handlers, and re/pre-heat coils. Checks and changes filters, oil and grease bearings. Changes motors if repair is impractical, cleaning and re-insulating per standard procedures. Unstops or replaces condensate drains. Diagnosis, replaces, and calibrates bad pneumatic thermostats. Checks and changes industrial drive belts. Assists in changing bearings. Checks and greases pumps. Performs preventive maintenance and repair on air compressors to include crank cases, regulators, and dryer repair.
10% - Essential - Electrical Systems Management: Traces circuits to isolate problems. Tests and changes failed circuit breakers, identifying voltages. Changes bulbs, ballasts, switches and receptacles. Measures current flow (Amps) to verify proper motor operation. Repairs 3-way and 4-way switch circuits. Checks and sets official building clocks. Tests emergency lighting and batteries.
10% - Essential - Carpentry: Repairs latches, locks, weather-stripping, door issues, windows, window blinds and window frames. Reattaches loose or missing cove base, repairs damaged or missing VCT, LVT, and laminate flooring. Replaces damaged or stained ceiling tile, and repairs minor damages in drop ceiling grid.
Safety: Promotes a safe workplace and safe work practices. Complies with all applicable OSHA safety mandates and enforcement of University LOTO policy. Complies with all NEC rules and regulations, completing all relevant training. Promotes positive and productive relationships within and between shops.
