Archival Processor (part-time/28 hours per week)

What you'll
do in this position
Arrangement and Preservation:
Follow established processing plans developed by curators to support processing archivist in the organization, housing, and arrangement of archival materials. Identify preservation issues and other obstacles in processing projects.
Finding Aids:
Create descriptions of archival materials according to archival theory and national and departmental standards, and remediating description to prepare materials for digitization.
Quality control:
Performs first-level review of work produced by staff members and final reviews of student work.
Professional growth:
At BYU, we value continuous learning. Engag e actively with the archival field through attending conferences, participate in trainings, and stay informed of current archival trends.
Mentorship and supervision:
This position may mentor or interact with students working toward careers in history, archives, and libraries.
What qualifies you for this role
Required:
A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
Familiarity with archival theory, arrangement, description, and preservation following national standards and best practices.
Proficient in historical research, writing and grammar, editing, attention to detail, and proofreading.
Proficient in communicating in writing, including concise summarization, and interpretation of handwriting and penmanship styles.
Proficient in communicating verbally.
Demonstrated collegial and collaborative attitude when accepting and providing feedback.
Ability to assess and improve performance and productivity, set achievable goals, use time wisely, and communicate areas of weakness or inability to complete work to supervisor.
Ability to embrace challenges, be adaptable and flexible, and willing to work outside of comfort zone.
Demonstrated collegial and collaborative attitude in the workplace.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
Experience or familiarity with archival processing.
Proven interest in pursuing a career in the archives field.
