The NCDAC / Support Services / Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) is recruiting for an entry-level energized and collaborative
to be a part of the DECM Engineering Team and provide a path to become a registered North Carolina Architect. This position has a duty station at the DECM Office Complex off Yonkers Road in Raleigh, NC and will be tasked with applying architectural based knowledge, forward-thinking direction, and overall project management.
shall have entry-level knowledge of architectural building systems and work directly under the tutelage of the Architectural Supervisor and/or senior Project Architects, while assisting with in-house architectural life-safety, ADA, energy efficiency, egress, and space planning on NCDAC's facilities physical plant for the completion of Force Account construction, renovation, and/or major maintenance projects. This position will be trained on plan development, specification writing, estimating, building envelope and roof evaluations, field investigations, project management, and planning, scoping, budgeting, and evaluation of other systems for new and existing facilities.
A successful candidate for this position shall have the ability and desire to obtain their license to practice Architecture in North Carolina, as this position will provide the pathway to gain the experience and knowledge necessary to sit for the North Carolina licensure exam.
This position requires the daily commute to DECM's Office Complex off Yonkers Road in Raleigh, NC. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with

Management Preferences:
Entry-level knowledge of principles and practices of architecture building system planning, design, AND/OR construction.
Entry-level knowledge of NC Building Codes and/or International Building Codes.
Basic knowledge of AutoCAD AND/OR Revit design software.
Bachelor's degree in architecture from an appropriately accredited institution and (1) year of practical experience within the architectural design field.
Ability to obtain a license to practice Architecture in the State of North Carolina within (48) months of employment.

The
Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM)
serves as the NCDAC Capital Project Coordinator (CPC) and is tasked with coordinating all capital improvement, new construction, renovation, and repair projects with the State Construction Office (SCO). DECM also acts as the DAC representative on matters involving the State Property Office and State Building Commission. Our unified purpose is to provide architectural and engineering support, sustainability, efficiency, and resiliency planning, as well as construction and maintenance services. This ensures that all statewide Institutions and Facilities comply with building codes, regulations, and legislative mandates while promoting the agency's rehabilitation and reentry goals through offender job training in the construction and maintenance trades.
We support the Institutions and Facilities directly and indirectly by installing and maintaining kitchen, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and electronics equipment. The DECM-Engineering team consists of experts in architectural and engineering design, property services, project management, and sustainability, efficiency, and resiliency (SE&R). These services support new construction, renovation, and like-in-kind and upgrade maintenance repairs to the agency's physical plant while ensuring compliance with the NCDOA State Construction Office.
Through valuable rehabilitation and training for offenders, we aim to improve recidivism rates. DECM-Construction undertakes construction, renovation, and major maintenance projects that involve longer periods of resource allocation with a focus on enhancing the department's infrastructure assets. DECM-Maintenance, which encompasses the Mountain Regional Yard, Piedmont Regional Yard, Coastal Regional Yard, and three Satellite Yards, provides essential plumbing, HVAC/R, and electrical preventative, prescriptive, and routine maintenance services to all Institutions and Facilities. Additionally, our maintenance efforts include specific areas such as telecommunications, electronic intrusion systems (EIS), fencing, cameras, fire alarms, and energy management systems, all focused on maintaining the Department's infrastructure assets.
