Your Impact:

As an Architectural Historian, you\xe2\x80\x99ll work on a variety of projects in the West \xe2\x80\x93 including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, California, Nevada, and Hawaii - and throughout the United States. This position involves providing cultural resources support for planning, engineering, and construction services to government, transportation, military, and commercial clients. The architectural historian career path provides the opportunity to work on projects that require compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and other federal, state, and local cultural resource regulations.

You will conduct desktop reviews and background research; conduct primary source archival research; conduct in-person field survey; evaluate buildings, structures, objects, landscapes and districts for eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as well as for state and local registers; and provide analysis and cultural resources content for NEPA documents and cultural resources technical reports. For this position, you\xe2\x80\x99ll serve as a key team member working with scientists, engineers, project managers, and other project staff across business sectors and practices in the company. You\xe2\x80\x99ll also review undertakings for potential impacts to historic properties; coordinate consultation with State Historic Preservation Officers (SHPO), Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, Native American tribes, and multiple state and federal agencies; delineate areas of potential effects; complete primary and secondary source research and develop historic contexts; identify periods of significance and character-defining features; complete architectural surveys and site forms; and prepare NEPA and NHPA technical reports.

Possible office locations: Flexible hybrid position in Boise, Seattle, Spokane, Yakima, Portland, or others pending mutual agreement.

The base salary range for this position is $47,300 to $82,700 for an Entry level position and $57,100 to $99,900 for an Intermediate level position. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. \xe2\x80\x8b Here\xe2\x80\x99s What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Need:

\xc2\xb7 Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, Public History, Architecture, or a related field.

\xc2\xb7 One to five years of professional experience in historic preservation or a related field.

\xc2\xb7 Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

\xc2\xb7 Must be willing and able to travel for multiple days, as needed.

\xc2\xb7 Documentation and research experience, including Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record documentation, historic contexts, and NRHP eligibility determinations and effects assessments.

Ideally, You\xe2\x80\x99ll Also Have:

\xc2\xb7 Experience in Western United States, Alaska, and/or Hawaii

\xc2\xb7 Familiarity with the NHPA Section 106 consultation process

\xc2\xb7 Experience working in the consulting environment, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and be responsive to both internal and external clients

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of and experience with \xe2\x80\x98recent past\xe2\x80\x99 resources

\xc2\xb7 Working knowledge of GIS and basic understanding of cultural resources mapping and data collection

\xc2\xb7 Field experience using established methods and techniques of applied architectural research for historic buildings and structures
