Job Description

Position Summary



The Biologist provides technical support for remediation, restoration, and closure projects subject to New Mexico Oil Conservation Division (NMOCD) regulations, as well as Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and State Land Office (SLO) requirements. The position focuses on habitat assessment, vegetation and wildlife considerations, reclamation planning, and post-remediation monitoring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



Complete cultural resources desktop reviews for remediation and corrective action projects, including records checks and GIS based assessments.

Support compliance with BLM, SLO, and State Historic Preservation Office requirements as they relate to remediation and reclamation activities.

Assist in planning and managing cultural resources surveys at remediation sites in coordination with permitted archaeologists.

Identify potential cultural resources constraints that may affect remediation design, excavation, or access routes.

Incorporate cultural resources considerations into project planning documents such as remediation work plans and closure reports.

Maintain clear and organized records of correspondence, survey results, and clearances for agency and client use.

Coordinate with geologists, engineers, biologists, and project managers so that cultural resources are addressed before and during field activities.

Assist with development and refinement of internal processes and checklists for cultural resources review on NMOCD projects.

Participate in internal and external meetings to communicate status, constraints, and schedule considerations related to cultural resources.

Minimum Qualifications



Bachelor of Arts or Science in Archaeology, Anthropology, Cultural Resources Management, or a related discipline.

Entry to mid level experience in cultural resources management or archaeological field work. Title and grade will be aligned with experience.

Familiarity with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and related state and federal regulations.

Ability to work in remote field settings and to coordinate effectively with a multi disciplinary project team.

Valid driver license and ability to travel frequently to project locations.

Preferred Qualifications



Experience with projects on BLM or State Land Office lands in New Mexico or the greater Southwest.

Experience supporting oil and gas, mining, or linear infrastructure projects.

Familiarity with NMOCD remediation processes and how cultural resources requirements influence project planning and execution.

Experience using GPS and geographic information systems to map cultural resources and project features.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of technical memoranda and agency correspondence.

40 HR Hazwoper, Basin United and H2S awareness training completed. Company will provide if needed.

Physical and Travel Requirements



Ability to visit operating facilities, remediation excavations, and active construction sites.

Ability to walk extended distances over uneven ground while carrying field equipment.

Ability to work outdoors during site visits in a range of weather conditions.

Travel up to approximately 60 to 90% of the time, depending on project workload.
