During the course of this step the Apprentice is furthering his/her proficiency in all training and knowledge of the seven prior steps. The AP8 will be doing Journeyman Lineman work and learning the line skills of managing a crew, both in the line work itself and the skills that are necessary to fulfill the clerical part of the Foreman's responsibilities. What You'll Do:
Before moving to the classification of Journeyman Lineman he/she must have:

• Can and will act as Foreman (under Foreman supervision) to demonstrate planning and leadership skills.
• Will have a MINIMUM of 8000 logged hours (four years) in the field of Power Line Distribution and/or Transmission.

The courses commonly assigned to step six Apprentices from the T&D Power Skills training website are as follows.

• Power Transformers 2
• Circuit Breakers 2
• Voltage Regulators 2
• Capacitors and Reactors
• Relays 1
• Relays 2
• Control Equipment
• High Voltage Terminations
