The Applied Biomechanics Fellow is to work as a part of the Applied Sports Science staff to contribute to Applied Biomechanics initiatives at the Reds Player Development Complex that aid in the development and optimization of player health and performance. Applied Biomechanics, as defined in this instance, is the application of sport science and biomechanics to improve player development, health, and performance.

Education Completed graduate degree, or undergraduate degree plus equivalent work experience, in biomechanics, kinesiology, sport and exercise science, biomedical engineering, or related field.
Experience > 1 year of experience working in sports environments with athletes.

Ability to exercise independent judgment and efficiently plan, prioritize, and manage a dynamic workload.

Ability to operate and troubleshoot motion capture systems and other biomechanics and sport technology (e.g., force plates, IMUs, etc.).
Experience in processing, analyzing, and statistical modeling of biomechanical time series data using programming software (e.g., R/Python).
Competence in various software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Other Spoken and written fluency in English

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Description
Data Collection & Analysis - 35% Perform lab and on-field data collection and biomechanical assessments as scheduled or assigned.
Support the delivery of analysis and insights from biomechanical assessments and other available data to support individualized player plans and return-to-play processes.
Support Applied Biomechanics analysis and R&D to generate insights within Pitching and Hitting initiatives.
Assist with the management of biomechanics data which may include tasks such as data entry, cleaning, statistical analysis, and preparing written and visual reports.
Equipment Management - 10% Properly set-up and breakdown biomechanics equipment (e.g. motion capture, IMU, force plates) for data collection and assessments.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and manage the inventory of sport science and biomechanics equipment.
Research & Information Gathering - 35% Contribute to research projects and other Applied Sports Science initiatives, adapting to team needs and organizational priorities.
Conduct approved independent research projects to generate new insights and applications from available biomechanics and other data.
Perform literature and research reviews on topics pertinent to baseball biomechanics, staying informed on cutting-edge research, technology, and methods in sports science to continuously improve processes and protocols.
Evaluate the validity, reliability, and feasibility of current and emerging technologies and testing protocols, and support onboarding of adopted technologies as needed.
Project Management & Administration - 5% Ensure ethical management of player performance data, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with organization and legal standards.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the day.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds (supplies, machinery, etc.).
Ability to bend, squat, reach, and climb stairs regularly in the course of daily duties
Comfortable working in varying conditions (heat, humidity, cold, outdoors, confined spaces like office/cubicles and locker rooms).
Ability to handle repetitive tasks at a computer.
Sufficient hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for tasks like computer work, note-taking, etc.
Ability to work long shifts with long and variable hours, including weekends and holidays.
Ability to drive and/or fly short and long distances, day or night in various conditions.
