LS GIS is a highly technical team and is part of ITS which allows for opportunities to work closely with a wide range of technology professionals. Join a growing GIS team of experts improving services for LS employees, citizens, and businesses. LS GIS integrates with Police and Fire 911 services to provide AVL and nearest vehicle dispatch. LS GIS manages Cityworks to provide a service request and work order system with direct integration with GIS. LS development utilizes GIS to drive permitting and code enforcement processes. Animal Control utilizes GIS to improve pet licensing procedures. Water utility billing system depends on GIS to ensure the integrity of their service addresses. The heavy integration and utilization of GIS at the City of LS creates exciting opportunities for additional utilization of GIS technology. Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems, GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or Physical Sciences
  • Or Two years of GIS experience
  • Three years of experience with the implementation, management, development, production, and upgrading of applications
  • ESRI GIS tools and Azteca Cityworks experience preferred
  • Experience with relational databases and design, SQL Server, data conversion, and report writing
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Job Summary:
Work with various City staff to assist in the development and implementation of department and enterprise applications that depend upon tabular and spatial data. Perform technical work creating and maintaining the City\'s department and enterprise applications and/or Geographic Information System (GIS). Work is performed under the direction of the appropriate supervisor, with considerable latitude to exercise independent judgment and action supporting the development, maintenance and application of the City\'s technology solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the utilization and future development of department and enterprise applications, GIS applications and associated tools throughout the City. Participate in detailing the scope of the project including project objectives, project schedule, identification of critical paths and project milestones. Conduct business process analysis and develop user requirements for proposed applications.
  • Perform analysis, design, develop, test, and implement solutions as needed for application customization and integration between multiple systems. Includes database creation, development of custom queries and reports to assist in the City\'s decision-support activities.
  • Provide support and technical assistance for department and enterprise applications and GIS applications. Work with City staff and vendors to resolve problems, conflicts and disagreements on product, support and compatibility issues.
  • Evaluate user needs within the City as they relate to services and make recommendations as appropriate. Consult with users to identify current operating procedures, clarify program objectives, and develop solutions. Consult with City staff and vendors on technology projects, identify needs, evaluate alternatives, and coordinate implementation.
  • Assist in the maintenance of relational databases (spatial or tabular) and related data sets, with the assistance of the Database Administrator as necessary.
  • Educate departments on relevant procedures and monitor operations and data to ensure standards are being met. Evaluate data set accuracy and follow through with possible corrective actions.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and memorandums as appropriate to communicate the status of projects. Organize and prioritize projects, outstanding requests and presentations as necessary. Conduct Project Evaluation upon completion with team members.
  • Monitor activities by other agencies to gain ideas and techniques for use in the City and prepare recommendations as appropriate. Assist in the City\'s movement toward the utilization of technologies by identifying opportunities, making recommendations and evaluating alternate solutions.
  • Manage migration and upgrade of software applications and data. Assist in maintaining software and related hardware, such as time keeping equipment, specialized scanning and printing equipment, point of sale equipment, plotters, and/or GPS equipment.
