Summary

We're hiring an

AP U.S. History (APUSH) Tutor

in

Irvine, CA

for

University High School

(You must have experience working with

University High School students

specifically for

AP US History

).

You'll guide students through the APUSH curriculum and exam skills--especially DBQ/LEQ/SAQ writing--while aligning with

University High School

's pacing and standards. If you love bringing history to life and coaching students to write like historians, this role is for you.

Responsibilities

Develop customized lesson plans aligned to the AP U.S. History Course and Exam Description (CED) and UHS course pacing. Provide one-on-one tutoring focused on content mastery (1491-Present), historical thinking skills, and exam strategies. Teach and model strong writing for DBQs, LEQs, and SAQs, including thesis, sourcing, contextualization, and evidence use. Regularly assess progress; provide actionable feedback and targeted practice. Maintain clear communication with students and parents about goals, growth, and next steps. Stay current on College Board updates, rubrics, and best practices for APUSH instruction. Collaborate with other tutors to share resources and refine curriculum. Keep accurate records of sessions, assignments, and performance.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree preferred (History, Education, Social Science, or related field). Have taken AP US History at University High School in Irvine, CA or have experience tutoring/teaching

AP U.S. History

for University High School, Irvine, CA. Familiarity with

University High School

student needs/culture or prior experience working with UHS students (strong plus). Deep understanding of APUSH frameworks, themes, and writing rubrics (DBQ/LEQ/SAQ). Excellent communication, organization, and rapport-building skills. Ability to support diverse learners and differentiate instruction. Comfort with learning technology (e.g., Google Docs, online whiteboards).
Nice-to-Haves

Prior experience grading to AP rubrics or participating in AP readings/workshops. Knowledge of UHS assignments, assessments, or textbook/resources.
