About the Role
Provides husbandry services involved in the care, maintenance, and welfare of animals (e.g. mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs, swine and non-human primates). Provides training to Animal Care Technician I, II and III staff. Provides supervision in the absence of the Supervisor, Research Support.
What You'll Do Here
Comply with appropriate safety and study requirements as described in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and governmental regulations
Comply with appropriate safety and health practices including personal protective equipment and barrier requirements, as applicable
Recognize animal behavior and implement stimulation processes to eliminate or reduce stressors
Perform animal husbandry tasks (e.g. prepare rooms for study)
Train staff on weighing of animals
Oversee and assist with animal shipment activities
Maintain regulated equipment (e.g. monitor vendor visits)
Perform facility cleaning tasks (e.g. unclogging drains)
Demonstrate ability to assist with veterinary procedures (e.g. weights)
Develop and train junior staff on husbandry tasks
Attend training programs to become more knowledgeable of and develop expertise in laboratory animal science
What You'll Need to Succeed
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
2+ years of animal experience required, 3+ years preferred
AALAS certification preferred
Intermediate computer and math skills
Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) in a professional manner
What We Offer
The pay range estimated for this position is $22.00 - $25.50 hourly. Please note that hourly rates/salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience, skills, education, certification, location as well as internal equity and market data.
