Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Animal Behavior Specialist to join our team. This role is essential for understanding and improving animal behavior, ensuring the well-being of animals in our care. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in animal handling and training, along with excellent customer service skills to effectively communicate with pet owners.

Duties

Assess and analyze animal behavior to develop tailored training programs. Implement behavior modification techniques for various species, focusing primarily on dogs and equines. Provide hands-on training and support to pet owners, ensuring they understand the techniques used. Maintain a safe environment for both animals and staff by employing proper animal restraint methods. Collaborate with veterinary staff to address behavioral issues that may be linked to health concerns. Document progress and communicate findings with pet owners and team members. Assist in the care of animals, including feeding, grooming, and general health checks. Participate in educational workshops or community outreach programs regarding animal behavior.

Experience

Candidates should have a combination of the following experience:

Dog training experience, preferably with various breeds and temperaments. Veterinary technician or assistant experience is highly desirable. Proficiency in dog handling, including knowledge of animal restraint techniques. Familiarity with equine behavior and handling is a plus. Previous experience in animal care settings such as kennels or shelters. Strong customer service skills to effectively engage with pet owners. Experience in pet grooming or pet sitting is beneficial. Ability to perform heavy lifting as required when handling larger animals or equipment.
