The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist administers intravenous, spinal and other anesthetics during surgical, obstetrical and other medical and dental procedures. In addition, CRNAs monitor and document the progress of these patients as well as take appropriate actions to maintain their stability before, during, and after the procedure. CRNAs may also assist in emergency management of patients needing airway and/or vascular access.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Completes pre-anesthesia assessment with patient, incorporating history and physical and other clinical information, to develop individualized plan of anesthesia care.
Induces, maintains and assists patient to emerge from anesthesia consistent with patient needs and procedural requirements.
Monitors and maintains patient appropriately during procedure incorporating accepted standards of care.
Documents care thoroughly and completely.
Identifies and intervenes appropriately for change of condition and in emergency situations using critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Works collaboratively with health care team. Requests consult appropriately based on patient condition.
Applies evidence-based practice and quality standards to anesthesia care.
Applies fiduciary concepts and knowledge of organizational budget to anesthesia practice.
Applies principles of Safe Patient Care Initiatives to delivery of anesthesia and patient care.
Connects the practice of anesthesia to organizational initiatives through committee participation and attendance at organization and unit meetings.
Demonstrates a commitment to professional development through participation in mandatory and continuing education.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education, Training or Degree Required:
Graduate of a school of nursing and school of nurse anesthesia, providing education and training in treatment of patients in all age groups.
License/Registration/Certification Required:
(will be primary source verified by HR)
Licensed as a Registered Nurse and as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the State of Minnesota.
CPR (within 30 days of start date)
ACLS, PALS, NRP required. If not certified at the time of hire, he/she will have one year from start date to complete. (NRP not required for Pool Status)
Experience and Skills:
1. Experience as a CRNA preferred.
