REPORTS TO: Center Success Coach or Site Supervisor



SUMMARY:


The Mentor is an essential member of Firewall's leadership team. Mentors build a close relationship with a group of students, model positive behaviors, and tutor and help with homework.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop an excellent relationship with the students while promoting positive Attendance, Behavior, and Course Performance Maintain appropriate order and discipline at the Center Assess the individual academic needs of each of their students to ensure the accurate completion of all homework Assist in the daily set-up and breakdown of the program as well as help students, members, parents, or volunteers in any area of need even if it is not directly detailed in this responsibility's description Maintain accurate records related to each student's Course Performance and Behavior. Help develop and implement strategies to help students improve on required assessments Check grades on Broward County's grade-tracking system for assigned groups of students Assist the students with their homework, projects, and in studying for tests/ quizzes daily Monitor and record daily behavior and mediate any conflicts between students Assist in the daily set-up and breakdown of the center Assist students in accurately completing homework and projects, and study for tests/quizzes daily. Assist in the implementation of Success Plan strategies to target students' academic areas of weaknesses shown in their pre-USA Test Prep assessment results. Check grades on Broward County's grade-tracking system for assigned group of 10-12 students Assist students in setting and accomplishing academic goals Record student data pertaining to their attendance, behavior and course performance daily Be a positive role model for students and mediate any conflicts between them. Assist in the daily set-up and breakdown of the center Facilitate daily recreational activities Participate in a weekly meeting with the Lead Mentor, Site Supervisor, or Success Coach Participate in quarterly training sessions and program-related events facilitated by the Organizational Staff


QUALIFICATIONS:

The Mentor must be a United States citizen, a national or legal permanent resident and at least 18 years of age The Mentor must receive a favorable background check through the Broward County School Board, to include a FDLE / FBI check based on fingerprinting Strong people skills and the ability to work well with students and members. Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher Able to navigate Broward County Schools' web-based programs and software The Mentor must be able to follow written and oral directions. Mentors will be held to personal responsibility guidelines. The Mentor is expected to always conduct themself in a professional manner

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent Experience working in a camp or school setting


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:


Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide



OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


Skill and ability to use and operate a laptop, tablet, and/or smartphone

All uniform costs will be deducted from an employee's last paycheck as a result of termination prior to the end of their contract term and/or 1 full year of service.



AmeriCorps Benefits:

A living allowance will be distributed bi-weekly while serving. The living allowance is taxable, and FICA and income taxes will be withheld from the living allowance. Members are only eligible to receive a living allowance during pay periods when they are actively serving. If no hours are served during a pay period, the member is not eligible for a living allowance. Upon successful completion of the member's term of service, the member will receive an education award from the National Service Trust. Upon enrollment and acceptance into the program, the member is eligible for forbearance of any qualified student loans.

Hourly Benefits:

An income check will be distributed bi-weekly for agreed upon hourly wage. The income check is taxable, and FICA and income taxes will be withheld from the living allowance. * Mentors are only eligible to receive an income check during pay periods when they are actively working. If no hours are worked during a pay period, the mentor is not eligible for an income check.
