VSE IS SEEKING A QUALIFIED AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN II (PR) IN SUPPORT OF US NAVY E-2C AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE AT NAVAL STATION NORFOLK, VA

JOB SUMMARY: The Aircraft Survival Flight Technician II (ASFE II) manages, performs and schedules inspections, maintenance and adjustments of assigned aircrew flight equipment (AFE). The AFSE Tech II manages all associated supplies and inventory assets of the AFE. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of all types of AFE and aircrew chemical defense systems. Additionally, the ASFE Tech II will evaluate and determine feasibility of repair and replacement of AFE.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs disassembly, repair troubleshooting, modification, maintenance, and installation of aircraft survival and flight equipment (AFE) such as parachutes, flotation devices, protective devices, oxygen masks and anti-G garments.
  • Manages inventory, inspections, and the determination of serviceability of AFE such as flight helmets, survival kits, helmet-mounted devices, aircrew night vision and other ocular systems, aircrew eye and respiratory protection equipment, chemical and biological protective masks and coveralls.
  • Repair of fabric and rubber components, including protective clothing, thermal radiation barriers flotation equipment and various parachutes.
  • Evaluates and fulfills work orders for fabrication of authorized items.
  • May require supervision of operations in the tool room.
  • Requires consideration of program requirements together with specific variations in or from standardized guidelines.
  • Interface effectively with members of management, other departments / shops, and workers.
  • Communicate effectively about potential work hazards and provide feedback to managers, supervisors, and other stakeholders on all safety issues.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus two (2) years of demonstrated experience.
  • Must have Military Aircrew Survival Equipment technical school curriculum training.
  • Valid Virginia or North Carolina state-issued drivers\' license
  • Capable of operating a governmental general-purpose vehicle
  • Available for shift work and deployment with aircraft on land-based and/or shipboard detachments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of specialized tools and equipment to perform assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Eligibility for (and ability to maintain) CAC and Special Access Badge
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance is required for continued employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds unassisted.
  • Subject to continual loud noises.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods of time, climb ladders and/or service stands, balance, Repetitive Motion, Eye/Hand Coordination, Fine Manipulation
  • Visual acuity must be a minimum of 20/40 corrected and must be able to distinguish color.
  • May be exposed to fumes, mists, gases, odors, dust, dirt, wet or slippery surfaces, humidity and extreme temperatures.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiant energy, explosive and burn hazards.
  • May be exposed to vibrations, sharp objects and tools, heavy machinery and moving aircraft parts and will require the use of all related safety equipment.
  • Occasionally exposed to heights, precarious places, and tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • The selected applicant will be subject to a background check and drug testing.
