Overview
The State of Vermont seeks a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as Director of Field Services within the Agency of Digital Services (ADS), providing strategic oversight of Deputy Directors and assigned staff.
The Director is responsible for ensuring the reliable delivery of technology and operational support services to State Agencies, driving modernization initiatives, and advancing equity by tailoring solutions to meet diverse agency needs. This critical leadership role helps ensure Vermont's agencies have the tools and support necessary to deliver high-quality services to Vermonters.
Key Responsibilities

• Leadership & Oversight - Lead the Field Services Division; supervise Deputy Directors; establish goals, policies, and performance standards; and ensure consistent statewide service delivery.
• Operational Management-Oversee the daily delivery of field services, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and alignment with agency missions.
• Modernization & Innovation - Guide technology upgrades, legacy system transitions, and adoption of innovative tools that improve compliance and efficiency.
• Equity & Customization - Ensure equitable access to technology solutions and adapt services to meet the unique needs of agencies of varying size, scope, and complexity.
• Strategic Support - Provide mission-specific solutions that respond to evolving policy, operational challenges, and constituent expectations.
• Data-Driven Insights - Direct the development of reporting and analytics tools that enable agencies to make informed, outcome-focused decisions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Executive leadership and strategic planning in large organizations.
• Expertise in modern IT systems, field service operations, and government technology.
• Skilled in budget development, resource allocation, and performance management.
• Ability to foster collaboration, promote inclusivity, and balance daily operations with long-term modernization goals.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Public Administration, Business Management, or related field (Master's preferred).
• At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in IT services, operations, or government technology, including supervision of senior staff.
• Proven success in modernization efforts, operational support, and cross-agency collaboration.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate between business and technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to drive cultural, business, and technology change in complex environments.

The pay range for this exempt position is expected to be between $100,000 to $130,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

Environmental Factors

• Duties are primarily performed in an office setting with regular interaction with executives, Deputy Directors, and senior officials.
