Schedule: Monday - Friday, After School Work, (18 hours per week)
This position is responsible for:
Leads children's activities at an after-school program including classroom training, tutoring, assists with homework, sports activities, bible study, computer programs and specialized programs; prepares and serves children snacks; assists in leading field trips; maintains the cleanliness of the after-school area.
Drives a Salvation Army vehicle in order to transport passengers from school to the Salvation Army facility for after school care.
Key Responsibilities:
Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
Develops and implements lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities
Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.
Exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.
Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).
Ensures the accountability, security and safety of children participating in after school activities and field trips; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.
Assists with transporting children whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a normal camp environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis
High school diploma or G.E.D. required,
andtwo years experience teaching child development programs in a church,
orany equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certification:
Valid state driver's license
C.P.R. and First Aid Certifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children.
Ability to teach children Christian values as well as general childhood education curriculum.
Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.
Ability to become and remain certified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle per Salvation Army insurance requirements.
