Summary:



The Aerial Foreman I is responsible for leading and managing a field crew in the installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial telecommunications infrastructure. This entry-level foreman role requires hands-on leadership, ensuring that aerial construction projects are completed safely, on time, and in compliance with company standards and customer specifications. The Aerial Foreman I must have working knowledge of aerial cable construction methods and the ability to oversee day-to-day field operations.

Key Responsibilities


Supervise and coordinate activities of the aerial crew, ensuring adherence to project plans and schedules. Oversee the installation, tensioning, splicing, and maintenance of aerial fiber optic and coaxial cables. Interpret and work from construction prints, work orders, and job specifications. Conduct site safety briefings and enforce compliance with OSHA and company safety standards. Operate and maintain equipment such as bucket trucks, cable lashers, and hand/power tools. Communicate daily with supervisors, project managers, and subcontractors to report job progress and resolve issues. Identify and troubleshoot aerial network problems and ensure timely resolution. Verify proper permitting and right-of-way access before beginning construction activities. Document work completed using digital or paper-based reporting tools. Train and mentor groundmen and linemen in proper construction techniques and safety practices. Ensure all work areas are restored to original condition upon project completion.
Physical Requirements:


Ability to climb utility poles using gaffs and ladders (up to 40 feet). Frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting of heavier materials with assistance. Standing, walking, kneeling, and stooping for extended periods. Full range of motion in extremities and ability to use hand tools effectively. Visual acuity to read technical documents and assess field conditions. Tolerance for exposure to heights, noise, and outdoor elements.
Working Conditions:


Field-based position; work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Regional travel required, occasionally requiring overnight stays. Must be available for on-call duties, emergency repairs, and extended hours during peak periods or outage events. Exposure to construction site hazards including heights, power lines, and active roadways.



Minimum Qualifications:


High school diploma or GED required. Valid driver's license (CDL preferred) with clean driving record. Minimum of 3 years' experience in aerial telecommunications construction, with at least 1 year in a leadership or foreman role. Knowledge of NESC, OSHA regulations, and local construction standards. Proficient in interpreting utility prints, schematics, and pole-loading data. Familiarity with aerial hardware, construction techniques, and fiber handling. Ability to lead a team and communicate effectively with all stakeholders. Basic computer literacy, including the ability to complete digital reports and email correspondence.



Preferred Experience:


Prior experience working for a telecommunications construction contractor or service provider. Completion of industry-recognized training or certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, Aerial Line Construction). Experience with GIS-based field data collection platforms and digital job tracking tools. Familiarity with rural broadband construction projects and working in challenging terrain.
