The Adult Education Division at NMHED exists to support adults to strengthen their core academic skills and meet their personal, educational, and career goals. We offer adults a range of opportunities, and all of them are free!

Why does the job exist?



This position exists to ensure the integrity, coordination, and strategic utilization of adult education data across New Mexico. It supports NMHED's statutory role in administering high school equivalency testing and completion, while also fulfilling federal and state reporting requirements tied to adult education programs. Through data stewardship, collaborative leadership, and continuous learning, the role strengthens statewide systems that elevate educational access and outcomes for adult learners.

How does it get done?



Key functions include:



Establishing and co-facilitating statewide data users' groups to address operational challenges, share best practices, and support Adult Education data managers Developing and maintaining a recurring newsletter for New Mexico Adult Literacy grantees, fostering transparency, resource sharing, and engagement across the field Proactively pursue learning opportunities to enhance the effective and creative use of data, ensuring that insights are translated into meaningful program improvements Representing HED on the joint Public Education Department (PED)/HED Evaluation Team for Alternate Diplomas, contributing to policy alignment and facilitating the integration of adult education data into the statewide longitudinal data system

This position serves New Mexicans who do not yet have a high school equivalency, HED leadership, employees, associated agencies, local organizations, adult education program administrators, teachers and students enrolled in New Mexico Higher Education Institutions.

Minimum Qualification



Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, or Business Administration and four (4) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements



Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions



Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
