Duties
Engage with visitors and potential adopters to provide information about animals available for adoption, their needs, and care requirements.
Conduct thorough assessments of animals' behavior, health status, and temperament to facilitate suitable matches.
Assist in animal handling, including dog training, dog handling, pet grooming, pet sitting, and animal restraint to ensure safety and comfort during interactions.
Educate adopters on responsible pet ownership, including veterinary care, pet grooming, training techniques, and daily pet care routines.
Support veterinary team members by providing basic animal care assistance and understanding veterinary procedures related to animal health.
Manage kennel environments by cleaning enclosures, monitoring animal well-being, and ensuring proper animal restraint when necessary.
Facilitate heavy lifting of supplies or animals safely while adhering to proper handling protocols.
Maintain detailed records of adoption processes, animal histories, and follow-up communications to ensure transparency and accountability.
Promote a positive environment through excellent customer service, addressing questions or concerns with enthusiasm and professionalism.
Collaborate with staff on special events such as pet adoption fairs or community outreach programs to increase awareness and adoptions.
Requirements
Proven experience in dog training or dog handling; familiarity with veterinary technician or assistant roles is highly desirable.
Strong animal handling skills with the ability to safely restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments.
Prior veterinary experience or knowledge of pet health care practices is preferred.
Experience working with animals in kennel environments or similar settings demonstrates your ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining proper body mechanics.
Knowledge of pet grooming techniques and pet sitting responsibilities is a plus.
Background in animal restraint techniques and general animal care practices essential for ensuring safety during interactions.
