The NC Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (DMVA) is tasked with 23 specific functions that involve working with federal, state, local, regional and industry partners to support activities at North Carolina military installations and improve economic outcomes and the quality of life for our military and veteran communities.
DMVA is seeking applicants for an Administrative Assistant to provide executive level support to the Assistant Secretary of the Military Affairs Division and staff. This position will interface with constituents, federal agencies and offices, General Assembly members, Governor\xe2\x80\x99s office, Cabinet and Counsel of State Agencies, outside organizations, and DMVA staff. Position will set and monitor the Assistant Secretary\xe2\x80\x99s schedule and ensure all meetings are efficiently coordinated. It will be responsible for drafting, finalizing, and distributing general communications at the Assistant Secretary\xe2\x80\x99s discretion. Will create, copy, collate, and distribute materials and visual media for meetings and secure teleconferencing and audio-visual capabilities. Position will also attend meetings and record and transcribe minutes. The Administrative Assistant will prepare Budget Authorizations, Travel Reimbursements, Cash Code Disbursement Sheets, ensuring compliance with state policies. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, conducting research, reporting, maintaining filing systems, and other projects assigned by the Assistant Secretary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience supporting senior level or executive staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a calendar \xe2\x80\x93 coordinate, schedule and organize meetings for high level staff.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, managers, Veterans and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret State and Federal policies and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
