Job Description

The Position
The Finance Department of the City of Diamond Bar are looking for dynamic students, to join its team of outstanding professionals.
The Finance Department processes all financial transactions of the City. Specific activities include accounts payable, cash receipts, payroll, fixed assets, budget preparation and monitoring, audits, financial reporting, development and implementation of internal controls, and refinements to and maintenance of the general accounting system. Finance safeguards the City's assets and assures financial compliance, provides accounting control over assets, revenues, receivables and maintains budgetary control over all City funds and is also responsible for implementation of the City Council's investment policy to ensure, in order of priority, safety, liquidity and maximization of the yields of the City's investments.
Examples of Essential Job Duties
The Intern assignment will include exposure to the various accounting and/or payroll functions within the Finance Department. The assignment will take place at Diamond Bar City Hall, 21810 Copley Drive, Diamond Bar, CA 91765.
The Intern(s) assigned to the Finance Department will learn how to process accounts payable, reconcile payroll and general checking accounts; track individual credit card statements and book the corresponding journal entry; gain an understanding of the monthly accounting cycle by assisting with basic monthly journal entries; and reconcile monthly benefits invoices to the corresponding accounts.
Qualification Guidelines
Education: Current enrollment in a college or university.
Experience: None required. Experience working at a City is highly desired.
Licenses and/or Certificates: May require a valid Class C or Class 3 California driver's license and acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment depending on job assignment.

Candidates whose education, experience and/or training appear to be best qualified will be considered first. The top candidate(s) will be required to successfully pass a criminal background check, verification of work experience, and submit an official copy of educational transcripts verifying obtained degrees or certificated as indicated on the employment application. The selected candidate will be required to successfully pass a medical examination after a conditional job offer is made.
This position does not receive any benefits except 40 hours of paid sick leave as required by state law. This position may average up to 19 hours/week or less and no more than 999 hours in a twelve (12) month period. Intermittent part-time positions are considered at-will and participate in an alternative retirement system through a mandatory 7.5% pre-tax contribution to a deferred compensation account with MissionSquare.
