The incumbent of this position performs the full range of executive and administrative duties and responsibilities in support of the State's Attorney/Deputy State's Attorneys in order to relieve them of considerable amount of administrative detail. The incumbent acts as liaison between professionals and para-professionals in the Office of the State's Attorney. The incumbent works with a considerable degree of independent judgment and action in accordance with agency policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; exercises a degree of judgment, tact, diplomacy and competency in dealing with the public, elected officials and county officials.

The Office will be responsive to the very diverse community of Prince George's County, treating every person with dignity and respect. The State's Attorney's Office (SAO) is responsible for serving nearly one million residents of Prince George's County. The SAO's legal department is divided into multiple divisions, each of which has jurisdiction over different facets of criminal law.

Acts as liaison between State's Attorney and the Deputy State's Attorneys, Assistant States Attorneys, professionals, and support staff in the Office of the State's Attorney.
Informs staff of policies and procedures implemented by the State's Attorney/Deputy State's Attorney.
Composes and types, correspondence, memoranda, agendas, procedural/legal documents, and reports of highly sensitive and confidential subject matters.
Prepares routine correspondence in accordance with established office procedures.
Types with a high degree of speed and accuracy, assuring proper format is used and the appropriate use of terminology and phrases.
Edits all copies to ensure an efficient product is presented for signature. Assembles needed materials to accompany correspondence.
Completes assignments with minimal instructions, using various informational resources to accomplish tasks and uses knowledge gained of the Judicial and
Criminal Justice Systems, local, state, municipalities, and federal agencies operations.
Keeps all State's Attorney/Deputy State's Attorney's projects, correspondence, and administrative files confidential, organized, and accessible for easy retrieval.
Purges filing system in accordance with established office procedures.
Uses discretion in prioritizing needs of State's Attorney/Deputy State's Attorney in a most efficient and professional manner.
Keeps State's Attorney/Deputy State's Attorney informed on daily basic operations of office and briefs as to what significant matters need to be apprised of.
Establishes and maintains log of incoming correspondence and documents to ensure timely action and reads outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy, policy and factual preparation; disseminates mail to appropriate party for appropriate action and response.
Qualifications
------------------
Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University in Liberal Arts, one of the Social Sciences, or Public or Business Administration; or field closely related to Legal area.
Two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in government or business.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience
may
also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Three (3) years of secretarial/administrative experience which involved working with the public, office management and critical operational details and confidential institutional and/or personal information.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration.
Considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and methods and their efficient application to administrative details.
Considerable knowledge of modern research techniques, methods and procedures.
Ability to provide technical guidance to subordinate level personnel in the accomplishment of the normal and routine activities of the department to which assigned.
Ability to analyze, interpret and submit oral and written reports on research findings.
Ability to analyze the functions and procedures of the division to which assigned and suggest modifications and improvements.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, County officials and the public.

General Plan Information:
The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31. A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse. Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate.
