The Administrative Assistant plays a central role in supporting the daily operations of the South Carolina Small Business Development Centers (SC SBDC) Lead Office. Serving as the first point of contact for clients, partners, and the public, this position helps ensure smooth and efficient program functioning across the statewide network. The Administrative Assistant provides administrative, personnel, financial, and grant-related support to the State Director, Associate State Director, Finance Manager, and leadership team. Responsibilities include managing communications, coordinating meetings and events, maintaining program and CRM data, assisting with compliance and reporting requirements, and supporting processes. This position is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and can balance multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality. As a key contributor to the SC SBDC's mission, the Administrative Assistant helps strengthen services delivered to small businesses across South Carolina.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Typically holds a high school diploma or GED. Requires no prior work experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with grant administration, financial reporting, or HR support.
  • Prior administrative support experience in a higher education or nonprofit setting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and frequent interruptions.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated accuracy, confidentiality, and accountability in handling sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and database/CRM systems.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.

General Administrative Support
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for clients, partners, and the public.
  • Receive visitors, schedule appointments, and maintain ecalendars and schedules.
  • Manage phone calls, correspondence, and meeting logistics.
  • Input and maintain client and program data in the CRM system; generate reports.
  • Assist with planning and logistics for seminars, workshops, and events.
  • Prepare a variety of correspondence, agendas, memoranda, reports, and other materials.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Grant Administration
  • Conduct research and compile data to support the development of reports, grant applications, and program impact assessments.
  • Assist the State Director in monitoring grant performance.
  • Draft and edit program reports for submission.
