Essential Duties

Records Management System (RMS)

:



Perform data entry, case management functions, and quality control in the department RMS. Perform data entry, quality control, and validations in the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN).



Department Administrative Duties



Maintains Department Reports, Statistical Reports, Citizen Report Forms, Collision Reports, Disposition of arrest reports and entering those into RMS. Maintains department office supplies. Schedule and maintain the department facility use calendar and visitor sign in Recognize, evaluate, and implement alternative actions or procedures. Establish and maintain department administrative filing system and according to City of Wasilla Records Management procedures. Answering phone calls and walk-in visitors to determine appropriate referrals. Liaison between police personnel and the general public as well as other agencies. Schedules appointments and meetings for the Chief of Police. Mail handler Occasionally summoned into court to testify on the department's behalf regarding records interpretation and content and evidence chain of custody. Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned. Act as department courier delivering records and evidence to other agencies.

Use discretion and independent judgment to collect, interpret and evaluate sensitive information while maintaining effective working relations with the public, other government agencies and department staff. Solid knowledge of business office management, office systems principals, practices and procedures, filing systems, information control systems, business office grammar, punctuation and express ideas clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Able to work independently, under pressure of time deadlines on a regular basis and with constant public and agency contact and frequent interruptions. Ability to type at a net speed of 60 words per minute. Able to understand and be sensitive to complex human relationships. Able to comprehend a variety of police practices, policies and procedures. Able to make a commitment to the law enforcement profession and to the public health, safety and welfare of the community he or she is required to serve. Able to pass a background check that will qualify for APSIN Security clearance and the security requirements of the department. Home Land Security orientation tests (Incident Command Systems) will be required as a term of employment taken on-line: Entry level ICS-100 within fifteen days of date hire and ICS-200, ICS-700, and ICS-800 within 1 year from date of hire.

Experience and/or Education:





High school diploma, GED or equivalent. 3 years of progressively responsible administrative work experience in a clerical or secretarial position, utilizing PC and software packages, is highly desirable. May substitute education for 2 years of experience. Prior law enforcement administrative work highly desirable. Associate degree in business, or related field is highly desirable.

The City covers 100% of the monthly premiums for employees and dependents

The City of Wasilla matches 5% of employee contributions for Tier IV employees. Employees will become fully vested after 5 years of PERS employment. State of Alaska Supplemental Benefit System (SBS) annuity plan is provided in lieu of Federal Social Security (deductions for Medicare will still be required). Life insurance is offered and 100% paid for employees and dependents through Symetra Life Insurance Company. Employees receive a $50,000 policy and each eligible dependent receives a $2,000 policy. Coverage begins on 1st of the month following 30 days continuous employment. This is a portable policy, and employees can take over the premium payments upon separation if they choose to keep the policy.
