Position Highlights

The Department of East Asian Studies in the College of Humanities at the University of Arizona invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor in the Chinese Language Program starting January 5, 2026. The selected candidate will teach CHN 201 and 202.




The Department of East Asian Studies offers Bachelor of Arts degrees and programs leading to Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in East Asian Studies, Chinese (modern history, religion and thought, literature, and linguistics) and Japanese (linguistics, literature, and religion).

Duties & Responsibilities


Teaching up to two Chinese language classes at 200 level. Working collaboratively to further the development of the Chinese language program. Holding office hours. Preparing teaching materials independently and collaboratively. Attending meetings and/or events as requested. Actively recruiting EAS majors and Chinese minors. Actively recruiting students to departmental courses in Chinese. Additional duties may be assigned.



Minimum Qualifications


Masters in Chinese Linguistics, Chinese Pedagogy, or related field in hand. Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English is required. A minimum of one year teaching experience and a record of excellence in teaching at colleges in the US.



Preferred Qualifications


An excellent command of digital/online resources and experience in utilizing them for teaching the language.
