Adjunct Automotive Technology Instructor

Job Description

Sussex County Community College (SCCC) is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Adjunct Automotive Technology Instructor to teach introductory and advanced automotive courses within our Applied Technologies programs. The ideal candidate will bring strong industry experience, a commitment to hands-on learning, and a dedication to preparing students for ASE-aligned competencies and successful employment in the automotive field.

Key Responsibilities



Provide high-quality instruction in one or more automotive subject areas, such as: + Engine repair and performance
+ Brakes and suspension
+ Electrical/electronic systems
+ Steering and alignment
+ Heating/air conditioning
+ General automotive service and maintenance
Teach in both classroom and shop environments while emphasizing safety, proper tool usage, and professional standards. Assess student progress through lab evaluations, assignments, quizzes, and practical demonstrations. Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records in compliance with college policies. Ensure a safe, clean, and organized lab environment. Support student learning through availability outside of class as needed (office hours or equivalent). Collaborate with program faculty and leadership to maintain ASE/NATEF-aligned curriculum. Available for day and evening classes.

Minimum Qualifications



Associate degree, or a closely related field;

or

a combination of education and significant professional experience. Demonstrated expertise in automotive repair and diagnostics. Strong communication and instructional skills. Commitment to student success, workforce preparation, and industry standards.

All instructors are responsible for teaching their assigned courses using a departmentally established course outline based on the master syllabus and assessing the course learning outcomes on the syllabus.


The Learning Management System (LMS) that we use for is Canvas. Prior knowledge of Canvas or similar learning platform is preferred. Although not a requirement strong technical and computer proficiency is recommended.Prior teaching experience and knowledge of online instruction strongly preferred. NJ, NY, and PA residence recommended.


Adjunct pay is based on $910 per credit hour.
