Job Description

The Retention Specialist, Addictions Pathways, is a key support role within Forsyth Tech's Social and Human Services team, advancing the College's mission to promote economic mobility through workforce development.

This position is part of a grant-funded initiative to expand and diversify Forsyth County's addiction recovery workforce by providing intensive wraparound supports to students pursuing Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS), Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor (CADC), and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist-Associate (LCAS-A) credentials.


Focused on fostering student persistence and completion, the Retention Specialist will provide individualized case management, connect students with academic and basic needs resources, and contribute to a holistic success model that supports students from pre-enrollment through credentialing and workforce entry.
Minimum Qualifications

Required:

Associate degree in Human Services or related field. Demonstrates commitment to student success and experience supporting individuals from underserved or high-barrier backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

Lived experience related to behavioral health recovery and/or peer support roles. Prior experience in academic advising, human services, recovery coaching, or student case management. Knowledge of Forsyth Tech student support resources. Knowledge of community resources in Forsyth County. Knowledge of North Carolina's PSS, CADC, and LCAS credentialing requirements.
Essential Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

include the following and other duties as assigned.Provide case management and proactive support to students enrolled in the Accelerated Addictions and Recovery Certificate (AARC) and Peer Support Specialist (PSS) cohorts of the Forsyth County Opioid Settlement Grant project. Coordinate individualized academic and personal support plans in collaboration with faculty and college staff. Assist students in accessing wraparound services including counseling, advising, food pantry, tutoring, Forsyth Tech Cares resources and County support resources. Lead onboarding sessions, check-ins, and ongoing follow-ups to monitor student progress and address barriers to retention. Contribute to the implementation of the pre-enrollment Boot Camp, including digital literacy, academic readiness, and trauma-informed life skills sessions. Collaborate with faculty, career services, and community partners to support internship readiness, job readiness, and credentialing success. Maintain accurate records of student engagement and outcomes, including monthly reporting on participation, barriers, and support utilization. Serve as a visible and accessible advocate for students, especially those from marginalized and underserved communities. Engage in team meetings, program development, and continuous improvement activities related to retention strategy.
