Overview

The Activity Instructor to provide recreational/educational/arts workshops and activities for young people to learn new skills; as well as an avenue for self-development, exploration, and expression.

Reports to: Program Director, SONYC AT JHS 292

Location: 301 Vermont St. Brooklyn, NY 11207

Hours: Mon-Fri ( 2:45pm-5:30pm)

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Design, plan and conduct activities and workshops in specified areas of education, specifically S.T.E.A.M., team-building activities, gym, crafts and/or the performing arts.
  • Submit lesson/activity plans in-advance.
  • Conduct activities enriched with literacy and math skills whenever possible.
  • Plan and implement a culminating event or project.
  • Complete daily progress reports and attendance.
  • Manage setup, operation and clean-up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment.
  • Attend all staff meetings and staff development trainings sessions, as specified.
  • Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED required; Associates degree or Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Some college and experience with adolescents preferred.
  • Experience and/or training relevant to the position required.
  • Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a commitment to work from a trauma-informed, strength-based and youth and family development perspective.
