We are seeking a passionate and energetic Activities Assistant to join our dedicated team in creating vibrant, engaging, and meaningful experiences for our residents. In this vital role, you will design and facilitate a variety of recreational activities tailored to the interests and needs of seniors, including those with memory impairments such as Alzheimer's and dementia. Duties
Plan, organize, and lead diverse recreational activities that cater to residents' interests, abilities, and care needs, including arts and crafts, music therapy, games, outings, and special events
Collaborate with nursing staff and caregivers to develop personalized activity plans for residents with dementia or other cognitive impairments
Manage activity schedules efficiently to ensure a balanced calendar of engaging events throughout the week
Provide companionship and social support to residents by encouraging participation and fostering a warm community atmosphere
Monitor residents' responses during activities to ensure safety and comfort; adjust plans as needed for individual needs or health conditions
Maintain accurate records of resident participation, preferences, and progress in activity logs or care documentation systems
Coordinate with families and external community organizations to enhance activity offerings and facilitate outings or special programs
Stay informed about best practices in senior care, memory care, recreational therapy, and working with individuals with disabilities to continually improve programming
Qualifications
Prior experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or long-term care environments is highly preferred
Knowledge of Alzheimer's care, dementia care, memory care strategies, and senior care best practices is essential
Demonstrated skills in event planning, recreational therapy, and working with people with disabilities or cognitive impairments
Strong communication skills to effectively engage residents, families, and team members
Experience assisting residents with ADLs and managing activity schedules efficiently
Familiarity with aging issues counseling or social work principles related to elder populations is a plus
Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment
Compassionate attitude with excellent interpersonal skills; patience and adaptability are key qualities
