MTHS has an opening for a part-time Accounting Tech. This position works as a member of the accounting team and is responsible for performing daily accounting tasks.
The ideal candidate is a motivated, energetic team member who loves accounting, enjoys providing financial assistance to MTHS's programs with valuable accounting work and tracking, and is excited to be a part of the behind-the-scenes accounting efforts that support the Montana Heritage Center opening in Summer 2025.
Function:
The Finance & Accounting office is one of six sections within the Administration Program of the Montana Historical Society. Under the direction of the Fiscal Officer, this position is responsible for many of the day-to-day accounting tasks of MTHS. Among other tasks, the ability to exercise sound accounting judgment, be detail orientated, have great time management skills, along with a welcoming and friendly attitude, is important to this position.

The Accounting Tech will work a 25-27 hour a week flexible schedule, Monday through Friday.

Representative Duties:
Responsible for processing the daily deposit of the cash and checks received by all agency programs.
Reconcile cash boxes and credit card payments daily.
Accurately input the deposit entries into SABHRS, the State accounting system.
Process daily accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions.
Collect past due accounts for agency programs.
Perform monthly allocations and reconciliations of accounts receivable, accounts payable and credit cards.
Identify and correct routine accounting posting errors.
Classify, record, and summarize financial data as needed.
Track financial documents and assist with preparing documents for audits and fiscal year end.
Knowledge of:
Accounting theory, principles, and practices.
Microsoft Office Suite products.
Skills In
:
Excel.
Oral and written communication skills.
Effective time management and organizing skills.
Strong computer skills.
Ability to:
Accurately perform accounting tasks.
Work both independently and as a member of a 5-person accounting team.
Work in a customer database.
Education:
Associate degree in accounting, business, or related field.
Experience:
One year of accounting or other applicable experience.
Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted.
Preferred Experience:
Governmental accounting experience
