The Opportunity
Join WSF's Finance & Administration team as our Credit Card Accountant! In this role, you'll help keep the nation's largest ferry system on course by ensuring financial accuracy, accountability, and compliance. You'll manage credit card transactions-providing timely, reliable accounting information that supports informed decision-making.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Accountant will:

  • Reconcile general ledger and journal entries using Great Plains and TRAINS; investigate discrepancies and prepare adjustments as needed.
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries by collecting and verifying accounting documentation for accurate transaction details.
  • Analyze and reconcile balance sheets, subsidiary ledgers, and bank statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Compile and issue financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Record and reconcile daily credit card, resolving discrepancies between point-of-sale data, bank settlements, and ledger accounts.
  • Utilize multiple accounting systems to prepare scheduled and ad hoc financial reports; assist with audits and resolve related issues.
  • Approve, review, and guide Accounting Assistant 3 work: train fiscal and program staff on accounting policies and procedures.
  • Provide backup accounting support during peak workloads or absences; participate in special projects and agency workgroups as assigned.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • Accounting Knowledge & Application
  • Demonstrated understanding of accounting theory, principles, and practices, including GAAP; able to apply established accounting methods to diverse financial transactions.
  • Financial Analysis & Reconciliation
  • Proven ability to analyze, interpret, and reconcile accounting records, general ledger accounts, and financial reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Financial Reporting & Documentation
  • Skilled in preparing accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and summaries that clearly communicate accounting data and trends.
  • Problem Solving & Strategic Thinking
  • Ability to identify issues, think independently, and develop effective solutions while maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Technical Proficiency
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and accounting systems such as Great Plains or TRAINS to process and analyze financial data.
  • Attention to Detail & Organization
  • Strong ability to manage high volumes of transactions with precision, prioritize competing deadlines, and maintain data integrity.
  • Communication & Collaboration
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; able to work collaboratively with team members, management, and other stakeholders.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable Experience
  • Hands-on experience performing AP/AR functions, processing vendor payments, and reconciling cash receipts.
  • Account Balancing & Ledger Reconciliation
  • Demonstrated ability to balance accounts, identify variances, and make necessary adjustments to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Governmental Accounting Knowledge (GASB)
  • Familiarity with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles, public-sector accounting, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Analytical & Data Interpretation Skills
  • Strong ability to interpret complex accounting data and reports, draw accurate conclusions, and recommend corrective actions.
