Overview
:
The Accountant I in the Fiscal Operations Division is responsible for data entry, warrant processing, preparing financial reports, proofing, balancing, and tracking data/reports/accounts, performing reconciliations, and serving in the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions and ensuring that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory, and organizational procedures. Attendance is an essential function of this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Processing and inputting data in applicable systems
Prepares and/or distributes financial reports
Proofing, verifying and balancing data, reports, or accounts
Performs reconciliations
Assists with property control as necessary
Assists with records retention as necessary
Files and maintains information and supporting documents as necessary
Responds to phone inquiries
Performs reconciliations which may include Unclaimed Property, warrants issued, fund creates and deletes, fund and appropriation adds and transfers, receipt and refund postings as well as voids and escheats
Maintains and processes forgery and fraud claims and supporting documentation as necessary
Supports the maintenance and processes forgery and fraud claims and supporting documentation as necessary
Responsible for online entry or retrieval of electronic files from the Federal Reserve Bank, other bank entities and Comptroller's Office as necessary
Performs Accounts Payable functions, including the review and processing of vouchers/refunds for timely payment
Performs Accounts Receivable functions, including the entry and review of information regarding the deposit of receipts
Provides back-up to other Accounting/Warrant staff as necessary
Processes various requests for the Unclaimed Property Division, including but not limited to stop pay of warrants, cancel for redeposit of warrants and warrant replacement
Provides information to outside entities
Performs special projects as requested
Create and maintain procedure manual for all job functions
Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably related to this position
Specific Skills:
Good communication and organization skills
Knowledge of accounting theories, principals, practices, and terminology
Ability to perform detailed work involving written or numerical data
Ability to make calculations rapidly and accurately
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word
Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships and communicate effectively with all levels of staff, the general public
Ability to operate office equipment and accounting machines
Education and Work Experience:
Associates Degree in Accounting or Finance, Bachelor's desired; two (2) or more years of experience in accounting with experience in accounts receivable and/or accounts payable; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to carry out the duties of the position.
