Hours:
Full-time, 35 hour per week position.
Salary Range:
$31 to $36 per hour, depending on experience
This position requires full-charge bookkeeping skills and operates under the direct supervision of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The role is responsible for performing general accounting functions and related duties to support the daily financial administration of the Health Center and tribal programs.
What You'll Do:
Accounts Payable
Receive, review, and process vendor invoices for payment
Match purchase orders with receiving reports and invoices, investigate any discrepancies
Reconcile monthly vendor statements and employee purchase card transactions
Setup and maintain vendor files, including W-9 forms, contracts, insurance certificates, and payment methods
Create vendor ACH payment files and upload them to the bank for submittal.
Respond to inquiries from vendors and employees regarding payment of invoices and reimbursement requests
Train employees in using the accounting system to enter purchases
Assist with the preparation of the annual 1099 forms
Payroll
Process monthly payroll and payroll advances accurately and on time, including reviewing timesheets and responding to employee inquiries.
Maintain payroll records, including updates to pay rates, employee deductions, and employer contributions.
Reconcile monthly employee insurance benefit statements and process payments accordingly.
Upload 401(k) plan contributions to the plan administrator's portal.
Prepare and record payroll allocation and accrual journal entries in the accounting system; reconcile payroll liability accounts.
Other Responsibilities
Record Seldovia Bay Ferry bank deposits in the accounting system
Prepare bank deposits for the Health Center
Reconcile Health Center petty cash
Assist with preparation for worker's compensation insurance audits and financial statement audits
Perform other duties as assigned by the CFO
Be able to travel as needed (day trips) to other communities including to and from Homer / Seldovia by small airplane and sometimes by boat when airplanes are on weather hold. Travel is a day trip, but inclement weather may require an overnight stay.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or directly related field
OR
combination of Associate's Degree or Certificate in directly related field + Work Equivalent,
Strongly Preferred.
Will consider applicants with work equivalent of Bachelor's Degree requirement. 5 years minimum of general accounting experience, required. Some Governmental or Healthcare Accounting experience a plus.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and a pre-employment background check including fingerprinting.
