Position Summary

The Academic Services Coordinator (ASC) will provide a broad range of assistance for students seeking disability-related accommodations at Washington University. Disability Resources is the University\xe2\x80\x99s legally mandated official resource for students with disabilities or suspected disabilities. Its mission is to facilitate University compliance with the relevant laws to ensure students equal access and equal opportunities to participate in all academic programs. The position requires the highest level of competence, sensitivity and integrity in all areas related to students with disabilities. Effective communication, interpersonal, administrative and supervisory skills and the ability to work in a confidential manner in a highly active office with a diverse population of students as well as faculty, staff and prospective students are required.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Liaison and Coordination of Accommodations - Arranges accommodations according to DR\xe2\x80\x99s policies and procedures in coordination with faculty for students with disability status.
  • Responds, Communicates and Documents regarding disability and eligibility issues - Responds and communicates to faculty, staff, parents, and prospective students regarding disability and eligibility issues as specified by the Assistant Director \xe2\x80\x93 Disability Resources. Participates in group reviews of initial documentation to assess completeness and determine accommodation. This may require communication with diagnosticians, physicians, psychiatrists, parents, students or other professionals to inform them about documentation criteria and sufficiency as approved by the Assistant Director. Maintains and properly handles confidential office records.
  • Administrative - General office duties (e.g., answer the phone, file, type correspondence). May hire, train, and monitor student employees. General office duties (e.g., answer the phone, file, type correspondence).
  • Assists students through review process for determining disability-related accommodations, and understanding necessary documentation for this purpose.
  • Meets with students and evaluate provided information to determine appropriateness of accommodations and services, including Adaptive/Assistive Technologies.
  • Consults with faculty, staff, and University community to assist in provision of accommodations and address barriers present for disabled students.
  • Hires, trains, schedules, and monitors student staff.
  • Creates, organizes, and maintains up-to-date electronic records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Undergraduate degree in related field or three years comparable experience.
  • Experience working in higher education with students and faculty.
  • Direct experience supporting disabled students in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge, training, or familiarity with Social Model of Disability, Principles of Universal Design, and disability-related regulations and compliance requirements applicable to post-secondary education.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, and the ability to readily learn other technology as needed.
  • Professional experience reviewing and interpreting psycho-educational reports and other medical and psychological information for the purpose of determining accommodations and/or academic interventions.
  • Demonstrable commitment to the value inherent in promoting a diverse student population.
  • Must be proficient in collecting, entering, and maintaining large amounts of data in a data management system.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and under tight schedules.
  • Experience working in a highly demanding facility involving sensitive issues.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent high school certificate and three years comparable experience or bachelor\'s degree.

G08-H

Salary Range

$20.15 - $31.26 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one\'s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
