Position Summary
Raven Lake Studio is seeking a skilled
3D Print Expert
to support a time-sensitive production project running now through
January 5th
. This role involves preparing 3D models for print, operating multiple FDM printers, ensuring consistent quality, and performing finishing tasks on printed parts. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced fabrication environment.
Key Responsibilities3D Model Preparation & File Management
Prepare and optimize 3D models for FDM printing.
Create, modify, and organize printable files.
Slice files using
CURA 5.11
,
Anycubic Next Slicer
, or comparable tools.
Adjust slicing settings for materials including
ABS
and
ASA
.
Printer Operation & Production
Run and monitor up to
7 FDM printers
(Anycubic Kobra 2 Max, FLSUN S1 Pro units).
Ensure scheduled print jobs are completed on time and meet quality requirements.
Troubleshoot printer issues (bed leveling, extrusion issues, adhesion problems, etc.).
Perform ongoing printer maintenance during the project period.
Quality Control & Finishing
Inspect printed parts for dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
Perform finishing tasks including
vapor smoothing
, sanding, coating, and general post-processing.
Document and flag any defects or print inconsistencies.
Safety & Studio Practices
Follow all studio safety practices for equipment, chemicals, ventilation, and PPE usage.
Keep work areas organized, clean, and production-ready.
Required Skills & Experience
Demonstrated experience with FDM 3D printing, including ABS and ASA materials.
Hands-on familiarity with
Anycubic
,
FLSUN
, or similar consumer/prosumer machines.
Strong proficiency with CURA or comparable slicing software.
Ability to manage multiple printers simultaneously in a production-oriented environment.
Experience with post-processing techniques (vapor smoothing, sanding, sealing, etc.).
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and print-quality issues independently.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a fabrication studio, maker space, or small-batch production setting.
Understanding of basic 3D modeling workflows (Fusion, Blender, Rhino, etc.).
Comfort working on fast-paced, deadline-driven projects.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods during printer operation and maintenance.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Manual dexterity for fine, detailed work during finishing processes.
Compensation & Schedule
Hourly rate based on experience.
Project-based schedule with variable weekly hours; some flexibility may be required to meet production deadlines.
